Impatient Congress persons have begun to speak up publicly about the need to immediately select a new president and end the ongoing impasse that started on May 25 when Rahul Gandhi put in his papers.

Ahead of the crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee on the issue of election of Gandhi’s successor, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Friday said a consensus-builder president must be selected on Saturday and then intra-party elections should be held.

Singhvi tweeted, “On Sat, a consensus builder party pres #INC must be selected. slightest delay is not an option. In lighter vein, I gave analogy of wise men of #Vatican locked in a room indefinitely until they got a nomination! Subsequently, it has to be followed by full intra party elections.”

The CWC is meeting on Saturday and may either select the next president or set up a panel to hunt for one.
