Ludhiana, September 13

It seems that the main contest in upcoming zila parishad and panchayat samiti election would be between arch rivals i.e. the Congress and and Shiromani Akali Dal.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which is the main opposition party in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has fielded candidates at only six out of 25 zones of the zila parishad. In total there are 68 candidates in fray for zila parishad polls which are scheduled to take place on September 19.

There is a direct contest between the Congress and SAD candidates at 13 zones, including Hambran, Khirnian, Heran, Narangwal, Alamgir, Hans Kalan, Binjal, Bija, Neelon Kalan, Kila Raipur, Purain, Sarabha and Mutton as no other candidate is contesting elections in these zones.

The Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) has fielded only one candidate for zila parishad elections who would contest from Ramgarh Sardran zone

Senior leaders of both the Congress and SAD have intensified campaigning for their respective candidates. Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and Congress MLAs are constantly holding meetings with villagers. “We have fielded candidates from several zones for zila parishad polls. We could not field candidates for remaining zones due to shortage of time,” said Harnek Singh Sekhon, president, AAP Ludhiana Rural.
