Come September 6 and the Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) will be home to the prestigious, The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) President’s Medals Exhibition, until October 9.
Hosted for the first time at CCA, this exhibition celebrates the unique, collaborative efforts of a dedicated team of students and alumni, who spent their summer break designing, planning and executing the RIBA exhibition and associated events.
Open for all, with entries of architecture students from all over India, this exhibition displays the world’s best architecture under one roof. “This handshake between the alumni and the students is a tribute to some of the best architects such as Le Corbusier, Sir Edwin Lutyens, Edwin Maxwell Fry, Charles Correa and many others. Projects done across the world are put up on panels to give an insight into master architecture. Our intention is to inform our students and all the other visiting students about the intricate details of the field,” says principal Sangeeta Baggha.
The month-long exhibition is a tribute to the likes of Le Corbusier, Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew and their contribution to The City Beautiful. “There are diverse themes and research projects that our students can be inspired by. We are showcasing the award-winning architecture in Chandigarh. It’s something not open to public otherwise since it’s really select. The students with the alumni from the 1980-90 and other batches have curated the exhibition, planned on how it should be laid out. The end result has been a studio transformed into a gallery. In all, there are 16 prize winning entries and 30 other shortlisted by RIBA,” she explains. —Gurnaaz Kaur
