New Delhi, January 1

Environment minister Imran Hussain today ordered immediate closure and sealing of three private ready mix concrete (RMC) plants at Mukundpur Chowk for their failure to comply with dust control norms contributing to air pollution in the capital.

The direction came after a surprise inspection by Hussain, who was accompanied by the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) (Model Town), police authorities and the officers of Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

The minister directed the concerned SDM to see that the owner of RMC plants is arrested for causing public nuisance and air pollution. Besides, he also directed the SDM and electricity authorities to disconnect the electricity connection and ensure the plant is shut immediately.

During the inspection, the minister found that there were no sprinkling arrangements at the site, RMC materials and cement were not covered by any sheets as required and the approach road was full of dust blanket. — TNS
