Girls excel in Bsc exams

Ludhiana: Students of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, proved their might in BSc biotechnology (Honours) third semester exams held in December 2018. Nidhi Sikka secured eighth position in Panjab University by obtaining 412 marks out of 500. Ishika stood 10 in the varsity by scoring 410 marks. 

Guru Nanak Girls College

The declaration of BSc biotechnology (Honours) first semester exam results was a matter of pride for Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana. Kirandeep Kaur stood 10th in Panjab University and 1st in the college by obtaining 80.6 per cent. 

World Radio Day celebrated 

Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organised an event titled “Aap Sun Rahe Hai Akashvani”, on the occasion of the World Radio Day. Navdeep Singh, programme head, AIR FM Gold, Ludhiana, was the chief guest. Students acted as radio jockeys and presented programmes on different themes. The event was followed by an interactive session between the chief guest and students.

Cancer walkathon 

Students studying BSc and BA at Arya College participated in the cancer walkathon organised by the American Institute of Oncology in association with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Students enthusiastically participated in 3 km walkathon. Principal Dr Savita Uppal appreciated the students for their participation in a good cause and added that early detection plays a vital role in eliminating cancer.

Book review session held 

Group Discussion Club of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines, organised a book review session. As many as 50 students studying MBA, MCA, BCA, BBA, BCom, BHMCT (hotel management) and BSc (fashion technology) participated in the event and shared review of books on spiritualism, nationalism, motivation, financial literacy, and informational technology, among others. Students used the platform to present a critical discussion of the book they had read and gave others a comprehensive idea what to expect from that book. Dr Harpreet Singh, Principal, GGNIMT, said most common habit of successful people is that they are prolific readers. 

Industrial visit organised

Shree Atam Vallabh Jain College, Ludhiana, organised an industrial visit to SS Food Industries (Bonn Biscuit Division), Ludhiana, for MCom and BCom students. Thirty five students under the guidance of Prof Manoj Arora and Dr Harleen Kaur visited the unit. The executives of the company briefed the students about the company’s history, major milestones achieved and work environment. The students got an exposure on the practical aspect of the different techniques of producing biscuits, various stages of production process and the information related to the plant and products. 

Lecture on career counselling 

An extension lecture on career counselling was organised in DD Jain College of Education. Dr Gurmeet, fellow Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the resource person on the occasion. He elaborated factors affecting the guidance and counseling and emphasised on helping younger generation to choose their careers.
