Ludhiana: Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Civil Lines, organised a workshop on ‘Mastering Office Skills’ at the department of Office Management of the college for the benefit of the office and laboratory staff of the college. They were educated to perform different types of duties in the office, such as drafting and typing different official letters, handling mail, making tour programme and TA bills, filing, indexing and leave rules. It was well received by the non-teaching staff.

NSS camp concludes

The 9th NSS camp on the theme ‘Clean India, Healthy India’ was held in the Khasi Kalan village from January 4 to Jan 10 and was concluded today at BCM College of Education. Dr Harmeet Singh Saralch, NSS coordinator, PAU graced the occasion as the chief guest at the valedictory function. The NSS volunteers presented a beautiful cultural programme viz songs, skit, group dance, poems to entertain one and all. The programme officer Manjeet Kaur read the report. Glimpses of the camp were also shown to the gathering by Shilpa Kaura. During the seven-day long camp, students actively organised a cleanliness drive at the government high school, Gurudwara Sahib, Aanganwadi, Dispensary in Khasikalan village, led a rally on the theme ‘Clean India, Healthy India’ and also went to Buddha Nullah for cleanliness awareness drive 

MOOC courses organised

CT University (CTU) has introduced Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), free online courses available for students and faculty members. MOOCs provide an affordable and flexible way to learn new skills, advances the career of the students and to deliver quality Educational Experiences at larger scale.  NPTEL (National Programme for Technologically Enhanced Learning) is the key program which is being executed under MOOC. This is the Project funded by MHRD, Government of India that emphasis on 3A’s i.e., Anyone, Anytime and Anywhere. In this E-Learning Platform, all the technological courses are taught by various IITians. 82 Faculty members have already enrolled and started their courses.

Workshop on soft skills

“It is not just the hard skills obtained through classroom learning, but the soft skills along with life skills groomed through personal experience and training that enable a student to mark a rewarding career for himself,” said Harpreet Singh, a life skills coach, while interacting with the students of BBA, B Com, BCA, MCA and MBA on the topic: ‘Effective Communication for Good Leadership’ at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT, accorded a warm welcome to the guest speaker. He highlighted the need for such sessions for the all round development of the students. Harpreet Singh said effective communication was the success mantra of good leadership. Signifying various other life skills, he emphasised that communication skills were the skills a leader needed the most. He expressed that those who can control the basic instincts towards common goals become leaders. TNS
