College named after freedom fighter

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday extended greetings to people of the state on the occasion of Republic Day and hoisted the national flag at Bhim Sports Complex in Bhiwani.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister announced that the medical college in Bhiwani would be named after freedom fighter Pt Neki Ram Sharma.

Khattar honoured freedom fighters and war widows with shawls. After the function, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects to the tune of over Rs 83.26 crore.

He said in the last four years, corruption had been curbed by making the maximum use of information technology and the youth were being given jobs on the basis of merit in a transparent manner.

He said in the recently declared results of Group D posts, of the 18,218 persons selected, over 2,000 youths were from Bhiwani.

He said that he had been serving the people without any bias. He said he was happy that people were satisfied with the functioning of the state government.

He said when the present government came to power over four years ago, there were many challenges, the primary one being corruption.

He said with the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had taken many decisions to bring about positive changes in the life of the common man.

The national flag was hoisted by Speaker Kanwar Pal in Karnal, Deputy Speaker Santosh Yadav in Faridabad, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma in Rohtak, Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu in Hisar, Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar in Gurugram, PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh in Nuh, Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain in Kaithal, Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar in Kurukshetra and Industries and Commerce Minister Vipul Goel in Jind.

Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya hosted “At Home” at Raj Bhavan, which was attended by Khattar, Minister of State for Cooperation Manish Grover and senior civil, police and military officers.

War widows honoured

Kaithal: Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain hoisted the national flag and took salute of the parade at the Police Lines ground here.

She offered floral tributes at the memorial of martyrs and honoured 10 war widows and eight widows of freedom fighters. The minister gave Rs 2 lakh to the children who participated in cultural and other items.

Kavita Jain said that on this day, we remember all those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

She said that country was emerging stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She highlighted various schemes including “Ayushman Bharat Yojana” under which 55 crore members of 11 crore families would benefit.

Kavita said that giving 10 per cent reservation to economically poor in the upper castes was an historic step.

President’s Medal awardee and judo gold medallist DSP Ram Kumar led the parade. The women police platoon was adjudged first, district police second and RKSD College NCC girls and boys wing got third position.

Schoolchildren presented cultural items and participated in mass PT show and march past. DC Dharamvir Singh, his wife Sunita, SP Waseem Akram, ADC Satbir Singh Kundu were among those present.

12 brave women felicitated

Sonepat: As many as 12 women — Kishni of Hasanpur, Nahni of Kheri Damkan, Vimla of Ratan Garh, Sudesh of Ahulana, Shakuntala of Bhander, Santosh of Kathura, Sushila and Meena of Rohna, Geeta of Thana Khurd, Saroj of Rukhi, Beeta of Lath and Sheela of Baroda village — were honoured as brave women by the Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Karan Dev Kamboj during Republic Day celebrations here on Saturday.

Besides honouring government officials for their outstanding performance in discharging their duties, four girls students — Ishita and Anju for winning gold in the 64th National Junior Wrestling Championship, Sheetal for winning gold in the 30th Junior National Netball Championship and Deepti for winning bronze in Khelo India — were also honoured by the minister.

In another programme, eight war widows were honoured by the Deva Social Welfare Society and Mannat Group in a Republic Day programme.
