A 23-year-old student of a local college committed suicide by consuming poison here on Tuesday.

The father of the deceased, Raj Kumar of Galauli village, alleged his daughter took the extreme step following harassment by a youth.

Narinder Singh, City SHO, said on the complainant of Raj Kumar, a case had been registered against Mohit Kumar of Galauli village under Section 306 of the IPC.

According to information available, Mohit and two or three other youths took her by car to a private hospital here around 1 pm.

He called up her parents Raj Kumar and Labh Kaur from her mobile phone and informed them about the condition of their daughter.

When the doctor asked the youths to take her to the PGI in Chandigarh, they took her to another private hospital. They allegedly left her at the hospital and fled.

After getting information, her parents reached the hospital and took her daughter to the trauma centre of the civil hospital. They later took her to another private hospital, where she died around 3:30 pm. — TNS
