Chandigarh, November 13

A General Court Martial (GCM) held a colonel guilty of maintaining inappropriate relations with the wife of his immediate subordinate and awarded him two-year loss of seniority along with a severe reprimand. The GCM, presided over by a brigade commander Brig Aslam Feroze Shah had commenced at Sriganganagar Military Station in June this year and concluded today, sources said.

The GCM’s findings and sentence are subject to confirmation by the convening authority. The officer had pleaded not guilty.

A court of inquiry was ordered against the colonel after the Military Police caught him with the wife of a lieutenant colonel at the latter’s residence in Bathinda in October last year. Both officers belong to the Corps of Engineers. The Military Police had raided the lieutenant colonel’s house after he informed a senior officer at Bathinda about his suspicion of what was going on while he was away from the station.

The court of inquiry, headed by Brig JS Goraya of the 10 Corps Artillery Brigade, reportedly held the colonel blameworthy of what the Army terms as “stealing the affections of a brother officer’s wife”. — TNS
