Chandigarh, February 14
As many as 50 inmates of Arya Anathalaya, Ferozepur Cantt, were offered sweets and pastries by their host, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, on the sidelines of the ongoing Budget session of the Vidhan Sabha here today.
The students were brought here by Ferozepur MLA Parminder Singh Pinki to witness the proceedings of the Budget session. Payal, a Class X student of the children's home, said it was great to interact with the Chief Minister and witness lawmakers engaged in discussions on the floor of the House. “Initially we were scared when we saw the MLAs engaged in heated arguments. But we were made to understand about the conduct of the session”.
Accompanied by their teacher Jyoti, the students from Classes VIII to XII interacted with the Chief Minister. On the occasion, Rs 11 lakh was announced by the Chief Minister for the upgrade of infrastructure and sports facilities at the children's home.
The CM told the students to study well in order to contribute to the nation’s progress. He encouraged them to take up defence forces as career choice to serve the country. MLA Pinki said the orphanage was established by Swami Dayanand Saraswati in 1877.
