Chandigarh, April 15

The Akalis today asked Capt Amarinder Singh to own up his mistake and apologise for insulting the Jallianwala Bagh massacre martyrs by skipping the national-level commemorative event at Amritsar.

Senior SAD leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder said, “The CM should act gracefully and apologise to the martyrs’ families instead of ranting and raving when questioned as to why he refused to attend the national event at Jallianwala Bagh and why he politicised the solemn occasion by attending a separate Pradesh Congress show.”

Bhunder also requested the CM not to mislead the Punjabis and the Sikhs by accusing the Centre of discriminating against them. “The Congress has always discriminated against the Sikhs. You also resigned after Operation Bluestar supposedly because of this, but the political opportunism took you back to the Congress.” — TNS
