Srinagar, February 11

The Kashmir Economic Alliance, an amalgam of various trade bodies, on Monday flayed the state over non-clearance of snow in the interiors and inconvenience caused due to waterlogged roads.

“Though snow was cleared from the main roads, it is still accumulated in the interiors of rural and urban areas which has caused inconvenience to residents. Business activities have also taken a backseat especially due to waterlogging and muddy roads at several markets. It is unfortunate that after the shifting of the Durbar to Jammu, the Kashmir region has been neglected by the state,” said alliance vice-chairman Aijaz Shahdhar.

He said the authorities should ensure clearance of snow from the interiors and also take steps to remove waterlogging.

“The authorities should ensure that the snow gets cleared. As lanes in most of the interiors are narrow, at places the snow has been accumulated on the sides of the roads making it difficult for vehicles to pass. Similarly, several areas are facing waterlogging and streets have turned muddy. Unfortunately, no long-term measures have been taken to address the problem,” Shahdhar said.
