Civic body all set to shift vendors to smart bazaar

Finally, the estate office of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided the shift vendors from footpaths to smart bazaar under the street vending zone project, launched three weeks ago. Estate officials had written to the police for assistance in implementing the plan.

Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu had inaugurated the street vending project on January 23. Following protests by vendors, the company hired for the implementation of the project failed to shift the vends.

A number of local politicians, including Congress councillors, are leading the vendors to stop the progress of smart bazaars at the bus stand.

BJP-SAD leaders and councillors are even participated in the vendors’ demonstrations against the MC, Mayor and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The company is making efforts to convince the vendors to shift to the vending zones but they haven’t succeeded till date. According to information, the vendors from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are willing to shift but the local vendors are not responding.

Company manger Abhay Singh had requested the MC officials to intervene in the matter.

Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia said, “We will implement the plan. All the arrangements have been made. Appropriate action will be taken soon.”
