Bathinda, December 15

The maximum temperature has started witnessing a dip after snowfall in several parts of Himachal Pradesh and rain in the region a couple of days ago.

Though the sun shone bright through the day, the weather remained cold as chilly northern winds blew at 1.5 kmph. As per the data shared by the Agri-Met Department of the PAU regional centre in Bathinda, the nights have started getting colder.

On Friday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.4 degrees Celsius, while it plummeted to be recorded at 3.5 degrees Celsius today. The maximum temperature today rose to 22 degrees Celsius as compared to yesterday’s 20.4 degrees Celsius.

Farmers are happy as weather conditions are favourable for the wheat crop. “Fog, which is falling in the form of water droplets over the crops, is also favourable. However, if it rains, it would delay the process of germination in the wheat belt. It will be good if it doesn’t rain for the next two-three weeks,” said Sukhdev Singh, a farmer.

Cold wave conditions are proving to be a boon for shopkeepers selling woollens in the city. A rush of residents could be seen at woollen shops.

Confirming that a drop in the temperatures in the last 10 days is bringing him good business, Amritpal Singh, owner of a retail store at Dhobi Bazaar, told Bathinda Tribune, “For the past week, there has been a great demand for woollens. Jackets and long coats are more in demand.”
