Bathinda, October 18

Preparations for Dasehra are in the final leg in the city. Artistes are busy giving final touches to effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakaran that will be consigned to flames on October 19.

Dasehra celebration events have been organised at various places in the city — MSD School, SSD Girls’ College, Model Town, railway ground and Pratap Nagar.

At some places, there will be attractive fireworks while at others fights between Ram and Ravana will be presented. The ‘Shobha Yatra’ would be the centre of attraction.

Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, along with his wife Veenu Badal, would celebrate Dasehra with city residents and would visit most of the functions organised in the city.

Shri Sanatan Dharm Mahavir Dal will be celebrating the Dasehra at MSD School. Manpreet Singh Badal is the chief guest while former minister Chiranji Lal Garg is the special guest at the event.

Before burning the effigies, a cultural show would be presented by students of MSD School.

SSD Sabha is celebrating Dasehra at SSD Girls’ College located on Amrik Singh Road. Former councillor Vijay Kumar will join Dasehra celebrations at the Pratap Nagar Dasehra ground and Model Town Dramatic Club is organising the event at Model Town Phase-I.

Over the years, inflation has raised the cost of effigies. The total cost of effigies for Dasehra has almost doubled this season.

While the labour charges have not increased much, the prices of crackers and other material used in preparing effigies have sky-rocketed.

Markets have also been flooded with readymade effigies and Dasehra toys for children. — TNS
