New Delhi, February 7

The Centre is likely to take punitive action against five senior police officers of West Bengal, including DGP Virendra Kumar, for taking part in the dharna of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

This may include stripping them of meritorious awards and removal from seniority list.

A similar action is likely against Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who will now be quizzed by the CBI on February 9 at Shillong in connection with the Saradha case, for sitting at the CM’s dharna.

The four other officers under the radar are ADG-Security Vineet Kumar Goyal, ADG-Law and Order Anuj Sharma, Commissioner of Police (Bidhan Nagar) Gyanwant Singh and Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police Supratim Sarkar. — TNS
