The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is taking every step to make board exams student friendly and refrain from putting undue pressure on children during exams.

The CBSE would not deduct marks for a similar mistake in the same exam more than once. If marks are deducted, the examiner has to list a reason for deducting marks.

Students have welcomed the move as it would decrease pressure on them. Class XII board exams have already commenced and Class X exams would begin from February 21.

Principal of BCM Arya Model School Paramjit Kaur said, “The CBSE is taking steps to become student friendly. Their motive is not to exert pressure on kids.”

“If a student is writing same spelling wrong multiple times in a paper then marks will be deducted only once. The CBSE is also encouraging creative thinking among students. If a student does not write exactly but his/her answer makes sense then also marks will be awarded. If examiner deducts marks for a particular answer then a reseon has to be mentioned for deducting marks,” she said.

Harnoor, a Class X student said, “This has relieved me a lot. The move will also help me in improving my grades. Students will now be encouraged to write logically and not cram answers before examination. This is a welcome move.”
