New Delhi, November 5
The CBI today conducted searches at 187 locations across the country in connection with 42 bank fraud cases, which were registered by it involving alleged embezzlement of over Rs 7,000 crore.
Officials in the CBI said the probe agency searched premises in Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, UP, Uttarakhand and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The officials said the decision to conduct the raids was taken at a high-level meeting of senior officials on Monday.
After the Rs 13,000 crore bank fraud involving Punjab National Bank (PNB) involving noted jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, the Union Government had instructed the CBI to take strict action against the bank fraudsters, the officials said. — TNS
