Cases registered against four in dowry cases

PHAGWARA: On a complaint lodged by Theekri village resident Sandeep Kaur, the Rawalpindi police here have registered a case under Sections 498-A/406, IPC, against her husband Sangat Singh of Mangli Tanda village near Ludhiana, his brother Gurnam Singh and brother-in-law Amarjit Singh on the charges of torturing her physically and mentally for dowry.

On a complaint lodged by Theekri village resident Sandeep Kaur, the Rawalpindi police here have registered a case under Sections 498-A/406, IPC, against her husband Sangat Singh of Mangli Tanda village near Ludhiana, his brother Gurnam Singh and brother-in-law Amarjit Singh on the charges of torturing her physically and mentally for dowry.

In her complaint, she told the police that she was married to Sangat on February 14, 2016. Later, they went to Australia in December 2016. She delivered a daughter on November 22 in 2017.

She alleged that her husband demanded Rs 10 lakh from her parents for settling in Australia and the amount was given to him. But even after that the demands continued. Her brothers-in-law Gurnam Singh and Amarjit Singh also joined her husband to torture her.

She said later, she, along with her husband and their daughter, came to India on March 23 last year. But he left her and the child in her parental house in Theekri village and returned to Australia without informing her. Since then, he did not turn up. The police are investigating the matter.

In another incident, on a complaint filed by Savita Sharma, a resident of Mehli Gate locality, the city police have registered a case under Sections 498-A/406, IPC, against her husband Bharat Sharma, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, on the charges of torturing her physically and mentally for bringing more dowry. However, no arrest has been made so far in the case.
