Carry ID cards, EC tells voters

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana State Election Commission has asked voters of the municipal corporations of Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamunanagar and the municipal committees of Jakhal Mandi in Fatehabad and Pundri in Kaithal to carry with them voted ID cards or any one of the alternative documents for establishing their identity at the polling station.

The Haryana State Election Commission has asked voters of the municipal corporations of Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamunanagar and the municipal committees of Jakhal Mandi in Fatehabad and Pundri in Kaithal to carry with them voted ID cards or any one of the alternative documents for establishing their identity at the polling station.

An official spokesperson said all electors to whom electors photo identity card had been issued by the Election Commission of India would have to produce it to prove their identity to cast vote during the elections on December 16.

However, those who had not obtained the same as yet would have to produce any one of the alternative documents, which included passport, driving licence, PAN card, service identity card issued to employees by central or state government offices, passbook of accounts, freedom fighter identity card, SC or ST or OBC certificate, arms licence and jobs cards issued under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.—TNS
