Two persons died while three others, including a minor girl, were injured, when the car in which they were travelling in hit a stationary truck near Machhiwara on Sunday.

The accident occurred during dense fog in the morning. The deceased have been identified as Avtar Singh (42), a resident of Ganguwal village, and his friend Rishipal Singh (32), a resident of Bani, near Anandpur Sahib.

Those injured include Harpal Kaur, wife of Avtar Singh, and his minor daughter Sehajleen and his mother-in-law Gurmeet Kaur.

As per the information, Avtar Singh left for Ludhiana with his family and friend to buy some items on wholesale rates for their shops in Anandpur Sahib. About 7 am, when their car reached near Garhi Bridge on Chamkaur Sahib-Neelon Road, Avtar could not see the stationary truck and the car hit it from behind.

The accident was so fierce that Avtar and his friend Rishipal died on the spot, while others were seriously injured. The Machhiwara police reached the spot and removed the bodies from the car with the help of passersby.

The injured were rushed to the Machhiwara Civil Hospital, from where they were rushed to Ludhiana in a serious condition. They have reportedly been sent to PGI now, as they are critical. As per Machhiwara SHO Harvinder Singh, they have registered a case against the truck driver for negligence. He, however, managed to escape.
