Chandigarh, September 7

Warning against any attempt to disturb the state’s peace and communal harmony, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered immediate ban on the telecast of the controversial TV serial “Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush”, which has sparked protests among the Valmiki community.

The district commissioners across the state started issuing the notification, banning the telecast of the serial by cable operators.

Meanwhile, expressing anguish over the incident where a youth was shot at during the Valmiki protest, the Chief Minister warned of strict action against anyone found trying to disrupt the state’s peace and communal harmony.

Endorsing the religious sentiments of the community, the CM has written to the Central Government to instruct the TV channel to stop telecast of the serial.

“We will not allow the peace of the state to be disturbed at any cost,” he said.  Nobody would be allowed to hurt the religious sentiments of any community or take law and order into their hands, he further warned.

Nine injured in clash after bandh in Ferozepur

Ferozepur: Complete shutdown was observed in this district during the statewide bandh of the Valmiki community. At last nine persons were injured during a clash at Sher Khan village on the Ferozepur-Zira highway between members of Kamboj and Valmiki community over the matter related to closure of some shops during the bandh. Both groups resorted to stone pelting and attacked each other with sharp-edged weapons. Sources said members of the Valmiki community had forcibly closed some shops during the day. The other group, opposing the same, entered into an argument with the protesters, which triggered the clash. Vivek Sheel Soni, SSP, said the situation was immediately brought under control and the matter was being investigated.

Bandh call gets good response in Amritsar

No untoward incident was reported though members of the community tried to block the rail traffic on the Amritsar-Jalandhar section.  Members of the community were protesting the alleged objectionable content of the serial “Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush” being telecast on a private TV channel. Its telecast was banned by DC Shivdular Singh Dhillon yesterday.
