Can’t point out wrong answers: Candidates

Eyebrows are being raised over transparency of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) in the recruitment process for the posts of assistant professor (college cadre) in English.

The HPSC had to scrap the written test held on May 23 after the question paper was found to be a cut-and-paste job.

This time, the HPSC is alleged to have given wrong answers in the key uploaded on its websites. Candidates are unable to upload their objections because of some problem in the web link provided by the HPSC.

“We appeared in the written test for the posts of assistant professor (college cadre) in English on June 12. The next day, the HPSC uploaded an answer key. Nine answers given by the HPSC in the key are wrong,” said a candidate.

“As per HPSC guidelines, we have to upload our objections with proof that our contention regarding wrong answers is correct by Sunday, but the link is not opening. We have been trying for the past two days, but in vain,” she said.

“In case we are not able to upload our objections, the wrong answers uploaded by the HPSC in its key will be considered correct. If that happens, those who have given these answers in the test will benefit at the cost of those who have given the right answers,” she said.

“Even if the link opens, we are not able to upload our objections. When we go to the submit option, the matter is not submitted,” she pointed out.

Another woman candidate said even one mark could make a mar a candidate’s prospects, but nine answers were wrong in this case. It appears that this had been deliberately done to benefit some particular candidates, she claimed.

Some candidates alleged that the HPSC had been doing shoddy work in selection of assistant professors (college cadre) from the beginning.

“The HPSC held the written exam on May 23. It was found that it was a copy-and-paste job from the question paper of the UGC NET examination for 2012 in some handbooks. It scrapped the test when candidates raised the issue. It is again trying to deny deserving candidates their due,” they said.

Manbir Bhadana, HPSC Chairman, denied the allegations. He maintained that the website had been closed for some time due to some technical issue and candidates would be able to upload their objections before the deadline.

“We will send the objections to a committee and correct answers if the objections are found to be correct,” he said.
