Bus hangs mid-air, miraculous escape for 24 in doda

An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan and a policeman have died in separate accidents since Sunday night.

The police said an ITBP jawan died and 36 others of the force were injured when a private bus in which they were travelling from Srinagar to Jammu skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near the Khooni Nallah on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district. The deceased has been identified as Muhammed Ali.

Out of the injured ITBP men, nine who were critically injured were airlifted to the Government Medical College & Hospital in Jammu and two were shifted to Jammu by road.

In another accident, a police constable was killed when his car fell into a canal in Kathua on Sunday night. The victim, Arun Raina, was posted as PSO to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Udhampur headquarters.

Police sources said some passersby spotted the car submerged in the canal and informed the police. Kathua police station SHO Davinder Singh and other policemen rushed to the spot and found the constable’s body.

A case has been registered and investigation initiated.
