Ludhiana, October 18

Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal on Thursday directed officials to report about farmers involved in stubble-burning so that strict action could be taken against them.

While chairing a district level coordination and monitoring committee formed to check incidents of crop residue burning at the Bachat Bhawan the DC said, “A few cases of paddy straw burning have come to light and legal action has been initiated against those who burnt stubble.”

All the SDMs have been asked to form a WhatsApp group and include cluster officers. He said the moment any official comes to know about paddy straw burning, they should post it in the group immediately.

He said, “Farmers should be educated about ill-effects of burning of paddy stubble straw.”
