New Delhi, October 14

BSF organised a 5-km run of personnel of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces dedicating the run to the martyrs.

Dr Satya Pal Singh, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, flagged-off the enthusiastic participants from CAPFs and the civil society. Approximately, 4,000 participants including Divyangjan and children ambled around the hexagon of the India Gate showing their respect to the martyrs of police forces, who laid down their lives in the service of nation.

On October 21, 1959, a CRPF patrol of 21 men led by DSP SP Karam Singh, came under surprise attack by the Chinese. In the gun battle, though the CRPF party was outnumbered, it gave a bold account of itself in the face of overwhelming odds. The force lost 10 brave jawans. Their martyrdom on this day is, therefore, remembered as ‘Police Commemoration Day’. — TNS
