Holding the placard, Tej Pratap interacted with mediapersons outside the official residence of his mother and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi. Taking a u-turn on his announcement of quitting politics, he said, “The BJP-RSS-JD(U) combine surreptitiously got my Facebook account hacked to sow seeds of differences in our family… Listen! My family is my life and my brother is my strength and a piece of my heart too.” OC

App to report poll violations

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday launched "eVIGIL" an android-based app for citizens to "secretly" report to the poll panel about violation of model code of conduct. As the app will be rolled out on a pilot basis during the forthcoming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram. People will be able to “secretly” send the commission geo-tagged videos and photos of illegal money being distributed or hate speech being delivered during polls. During the 2019 poll, “this Internet-based beta version of application-eVIGIL” will be put to extensive use, the EC said. TNS

3-year-old raped in Jaipur

Jaipur: A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth at Vijaypura village, 22 km from here, on Monday night.  The girl was admitted to Jaipur’s JayKaylon Children Hospital on Tuesday morning, DCP East Kunwar Rashtradeep. The accused was identified as Pawan Raigar, 25, and his family members were called for interrogation. He will be arrested soon, the DCP said. A case under the POCSO Act has been registered. OC

Endangered reptiles seized 

Guwahati: Wildlife Crime Control Bureau officials seized seven tokay geckos — a endangered reptile species that is in high demand for its reported medicinal values — from two suspected smugglers in Jalukbari area here. The suspected smugglers were later arrested. Forest officials said the lizard species were being smuggled to Myanmar through Nagaland and Manipur. An adult gecko grown up to 40 cm might fetch up to Rs 20 lakh. TNS

Rhino poacher arrested 

Guwahati: The Assam Police in coordination with a forest task force arrested a rhino poacher, Kasim Ali, from Milanpur in Biswanath Charilai on Monday. They also seized an inflatable rubber boat, two .303 rifles, 31 rounds of ammunition and Rs 2 lakh in cash from him. A forest official said Kasim and his gang had procured the rubber boat to poach rhinos inside the Kaziranga park when it gets flooded. TNS
