Factory worker duped of Rs 50k

LUDHIANA: A factory worker was duped of Rs 50,000 at Allahabad Bank, Daresi. Complainant Rakesh told the police that on June 11, his owner had sent him to the bank to deposit the money.

LUDHIANA: A factory worker was duped of Rs 50,000 at Allahabad Bank, Daresi. Complainant Rakesh told the police that on June 11, his owner had sent him to the bank to deposit the money. When he entered the bank, two boys requested him to deposit their Rs 2 lakh. In lieu, they offered him Rs 15,000 as commission. “I handed over my Rs 50,000 to the boys and stood in the queue. When I checked the piece of cloth in which the accused claimed they had wrapped the cash, I was shocked to see that they had replaced some waste papers instead of currency notes. Later, when I went outside to catch them, they fled,” the victim said. The police said CCTV footage of the bank was sought to identify the culprits and a case against unidentified persons was registered.

Youth nabbed with heroin 

The division number 3 police have nabbed a youth and recovered 230-mg heroin from him. The accused has been identified Arvinderpal Singh of Dhoka Mohalla. Investigating Officer ASI Mohan Singh said a person was found consuming heroin during a routine patrolling near Vir Hakikat School and he was nabbed. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the accused. Further probe is on whether the accused was into drug smuggling or not. TNS

19-year-old girl goes missing

Ludhiana: A 19-year-old girl has gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Mother of the girl, Premwati, a resident of Jawaddi Kalan said on June 17 her daughter Pushpa Devi left home without informing anyone. She suspected that her daughter was kidnapped by someone on the pretext of marriage. The police have registered a case and began to search for the victim. TNS

Health Dept inspects taverns

Ludhiana: The Health Department on Wednesday inspected various taverns in the city. A team comprising District Health Officer Dr Andesh Kang and Food Safety Officer Yogesh Goyal took samples of curd, chesse and mustard oil from different areas, including Ferozepur Road, Haiboiwal and Gill Road to check if they were genuine or spurious in nature Besides, the staff of food safety van tested 23 samples of milk and milk products, spices in the areas of Model Town, Model Gram and Kochar Market.
