10-year-old girl killed in accident

PHAGWARA: A 10-year-old girl identified as Savita was killed on the spot in an accident. She was going with her mother Kashmir Kaur, a resident of Ahmed village near Garhshankar, when they were hit by a speeding Punjab Roadways bus (PB-07BQ-1255) near Palahai Gate Chowk on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road on Saturday.

One booked for abduction

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Rama Devi, a resident of Urban Estate, Phagwara, the police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC against an Uttar Pradesh migrant Sahil on the charges of abducting her minor daughter (14) on the pretext of marrying her. The Police are investigating the matter. No arrest has been made till so far. OC

One booked for raping minor

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Renu Devi, a resident of Kirpa Nagar, Phagwara, the police have registered a case under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC against a youth identified as Shabhash Shah, a resident of the same locality, on the charges of raping her minor daughter (10) in her house when she was away for shopping on Saturday. The Victim was admitted to the local Civil Hospital for medical examination. The accused is still at large. OC

Cooling unit donated

Phagwara: Social organisations Punarjot International and Prayas International donated a cooling unit for the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, on Sunday. The cooling unit was donated to Senior Medical Officer Dr Davinder Singh by Ashok Mehra and Shakti Mahindru, co-ordinators of both organisations. OC

Two held with 35-gm heroin

Jalandhar: The CIA staff-1 today arrested two men for possessing intoxicants. The police said the accused had kept the intoxicants in their car. Both of them were caught at a check-post at Dakoha, Ramamandi. After a search, 35-gm heroin was recovered from their vehicle. The accused have been identified as Gaurav Kumar (32), a resident of Armaan Nagar, and Bunty Sonkar (34), a resident of Ekta Nagar. A case under Sections 21, 25, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Rama Mandi police station. During investigation, it was revealed that both accused were drug addicts and used to sell the drug at expensive rates in the city. They used to purchase drugs from Subhanpur-based drug dealers. TNS

Fire at factory

Phagwara: Goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in a fire that broke out in a ply factory at Mansoorpur village near Goraya in the wee hours on Sunday. Fire tenders were called in from Phagwara took five hours to control the fire. A short circuit in power lines was said to be the cause of the fire. OC
