India returned empty-handed from the archery World Cup Stage II after the country’s recurve and compound mixed pair teams crashed out in the second round. Jagdish Choudhary and Preeti were 1-1 in the opening set but went down to the American pair of Brady Ellison and Erin Mickelberry 2-6 in the recurve section. Later, the compound mixed duo of Praveen Kumar and Parveena, who got a bye in the first round, lost 151-155 to their lower-ranked opponents from Malaysia, thus ending their campaign without a medal.

Zoysa, Avishka suspended on corruption charges
Former Sri Lanka players Nuwan Zoysa and Avishka Gunawardene were provisionally suspended by ICC on charges of indulging in corruption in a T10 league in the UAE. Of the two, Zoysa is already under suspension for a previous allegation of corruption. The two have been given 14 days to respond to the charges. ICC, on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), charged former Lankan bowling coach Zoysa on four counts and Gunawardene on two counts. But the world body did not specify the exact instances that led to the action against the two players. The charges relate to the T10 Cricket League played in the UAE in December last year.

Smith hits 91* as Australia beat NZ by 16 runs
Steve Smith plundered an unbeaten 91 and Glenn Maxwell hit 70 before bad light stopped play, with Australia winning their final warm-up game before leaving for England to defend their World Cup title. They were handed victory by five wickets courtesy of the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method after amassing 248/5 off 44 overs in reply to an under-strength New Zealand’s 286/9 from 50 overs. But David Warner flopped again in opening the innings, out for two to follow his duck and 39 in the series.
