Lahiri ended with rounds of 77-73, finishing rather low on the leaderboard at 9-over as the cut fell at even par. Meanwhile, Justin Thomas, who is seeking his 10th win of the PGA Tour, was 13-under and has a one-shot lead over playing partner Adam Scott.

Panghal shines, India assured of 5 medals
Amit Panghal started the season on a strong note as the Indian boxers assured themselves of five medals in the 70th Strandja Memorial Boxing in Sofia, Bulgaria. Panghal assured himself a semifinal berth after a 3-2 win over Ukraine's Nazar Kurotchyn in the 49kg category. The Indian women pugilists too guaranteed four medals at the end of the third day at the prestigious tournament. Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Manju Rani (48kg) and former world junior champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg) made it to the medal round.

WI batsman Gayle to retire from ODIs after World Cup
Veteran West Indies batsman Chris Gayle will retire from ODI cricket after this year's World Cup, West Indies Cricket announced on Sunday. The big-hitting 39-year-old opener, who has scored 9,727 runs in 284 ODIs, is set to play his first international since last July against England on Wednesday. Since making his debut in 1999, Gayle has scored 23 ODI hundreds, including the first ever World Cup double century against Zimbabwe four years ago. — Agencies
