The accused, Birjesh, was arrested at Sector 25 after he was caught riding a Pulsar bike with a fake registration number. A case has been registered at the Sector 11 police station. TNS

Resident held with smack

Chandigarh: A resident of Sector 38, Mahinder Singh, was arrested by the police after he was found in possession of 7 grams of smack. The accused was arrested near Prajapati Bhawan in Sector 38. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Sector 39 police station. TNS

Theft at Sector 42 house

Chandigarh: A theft at a house in SBI Colony, Sector 42, was reported on February 14. According to the police, the complainant, Sonu, reported that some unknown person stole Rs 3,500, a credit card and a bank passbook after breaking into his locked house. A case has been registered at the Sector 36 police station. TNS 

Walkathon, painting activity

Chandigarh: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (MD) organised a walkathon and a painting activity at St Peters Senior Secondary School, Sector 37-B, here. Around 50 children from Classed VIII and IX took part in the walkathon. The event covered residential colony of Sector 37 and 38. Children raised slogans to save fuel for future generation as well to prevent global warming. The painting event was also organised for Classes V, VI and VII. Principal Geeta Kaushik briefed the students on the importance of oil conservation and encouraged them to generated new ideas for fuel conservation. TNS 

HC seeks report on hospital  

Patiala: The Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) today directed the Punjab Government to submit a status report on shifting functions of the Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital in Patiala from an old dilapidated and unsafe building to the newly constructed building in its vicinity.The Bench of Chief Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Arun Palli issued the directions while taking up a PIL filed by Jaspal Singh through counsel HC Arora.

The petitioner had contended that the hospital suffered from non-availability of even basic medicines, painkillers, antibiotics, syringes and gauge. As a consequence, private hospitals in Patiala were flourishing, he added.  TNS

Kids assemble electric circuit

Patiala: Six-year-old students of Class I of Bhupindera International Public School (BIPS) left their parents amazed as their little hands assembled electric circuit in the class. In fact, students assembled the circuit as part of their classroom activity. Their class teacher Reema Sharma said, “Students assembled the electric circuit as part of our hands-on learning curriculum. Firstly, we demonstrated electric circuit to children. Afterwards they themselves assembled the circuit with the help of their teachers.”“Our school focuses more on practical work for better understanding of the topics,” she added.  TNS
