Man held for stealing mobike

CHANDIGARH: One person has been arrested for stealing a motorcycle from Sector 45. According to the police, Chirag Pahwa, a resident of Sector 45, reported that Sanjay, a native of Fatehabad district in Haryana, was caught while he was stealing the motorcycle on February 10.

No paver blocks on V6 roads

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation has decided to follow the direction of the Chief Architect and will not lay paver blocks on V6 roads. Sources in the engineering department of the MC said all proposals for paver blocks would now be scrutinised by officers to check whether these were in consonance with the direction of the Administration or not. PGI doc delivers Tagore oration

Chandigarh: Dr Aman Sharma of the PGI delivered Rabindranath Tagore Oration at the 74th Annual Conference of the Association of Physicians of India at Kochi. Dr Aman delivered a talk on “The adventure of systemic vasculitis: care and clinical research”. Over 10,000 physicians of various specialties attended the event, one of the biggest medical conferences in India. TNS

Awareness camp at old age home

Ambala: Danish Gupta, Chief Judicial Magistrate/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Ambala, held a legal awareness camp at the old age home in Ambala City on Tuesday. He informed senior citizens about the services being provided by the DLSA. He informed them about provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. He told them that the law ensured maintenance to parents and senior citizens and also provides for the protection of life and property.  — TNS   

One arrested on rape charge 

Ambala: The police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping a minor in Ambala City. The suspect has been identified as Mohammad Sajid Ali, a resident of Saharanpur. The suspect was produced before a court, which sent him to one-day police custody. The girl had alleged that the suspect raped her and threatened her with dire consequences, if she narrated the incident to anyone.  — TNS 

Kharar youth commits suicide 

Kharar: Virendra Singh (23), a resident of Sante Majra Colony, Ward No.11, committed suicide on Monday night. Bhagwant Singh Riar, SHO, Kharar City police station, said they had initiated proceedings under Section 174 of of the CrPC. He said Harbans Singh, father of the deceased, informed the police that his younger son Varinder Singh  had completed his studies. Last night, the family had a dinner and all went to sleep as usual. At 6 am on Tuesday morning, he noticed Virendra Singh hanging from the ceiling fan in his room. He immediately informed his relatives. — OC   

Cricket meet from today

Chandigarh: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited will host the PSPB Inter-Unit Cricket Championship here from February 13. Eight teams --- OIL, MRPL, EIL, HPCL, NRL, ONGC, IOC and BPCL --- will participate in the five-day-long championship, the organisers said here on Tuesday. TNS

Rajesh, Meghna win gold medals 

Mohali: Rajesh Singh, Shubham Rana and Rahul Duhan claimed the top-three positions, respectively, in the 1500m competition at the 14th Annual Athletics Meet of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, on Tuesday. Megha Malhotra topped the podium in the girls' 800m contest. She was followed Techiopu in second place, while Priya Sharma bagged the third spot. Sanjeev Kumar clinched the gold medal in the boys' 100m dash. Manish K Jha and Anshuman bagged the second and third positions, respectively. In the girls' 100m sprint, Rashi claimed gold, while Archana bagged the silver medal. Avneet Kaur had to be content with a bronze.  Deepak Kumar won the honours in the boys' shot put competition.
