3 mobile phones found in jail

LUDHIANA: Three mobile phones were recovered from three inmates of the Central Jail here on Sunday. The inmates have been identified as Satvir Singh of Jassowal Suda, Gurmeet Singh of Pritam Vihar and Mandeep Singh of Farid Nagar.

LUDHIANA: Three mobile phones were recovered from three inmates of the Central Jail here on Sunday. The inmates have been identified as Satvir Singh of Jassowal Suda, Gurmeet Singh of Pritam Vihar and Mandeep Singh of Farid Nagar. The Assistant Jail Superintendent said during a routine checking, one mobile phone each was recovered from the three jail inmates. A case under Section 52 A of the Prison Act has been registered against the inmates. TNS

2 nabbed with illicit liquor

Ludhiana: The police have nabbed two liquor peddlers and recovered 30 bottles of liquor from them. They have been identified as Sandeep Singh of Kashmir Nagar and Pardeep Kumar of Madhopuri. The investigating officer, ASI Pyara Lal, said they got a tip-off that both suspects were selling illicit liquor at Kashmir Nagar. The police raided the place and nabbed the suspects red-handed. A case under the Excise Act has been registered. In a similar case, the police nabbed Sonu Khan of SBS Nagar, Sherpur Kalan, on Gill Road and recovered 24 bottles of illicit liquor. TNS

Jeweller held with heroin 

Ludhiana: The Special Task Force arrested a drug smuggler and recovered 25 gram of heroin from his possession. He has been identified as Amit Kumar, alias Ammy (41), of Old Police Chowki Road, Shimlapuri. He owns a jewellery shop at New Janta Nagar. The investigating officer, ASI Mohammad Sadiq, said the police got a tip-off that the suspect was to deliver heroin to his clients at Gill canal. The police set up a naka and signalled a scooterist to stop. His search yielded heroin. He told the police that he had been bringing the drug from a smuggler at Alamgir. TNS

Car taken away at gunpoint

Doraha: A car was taken away from a man at Ajnaud village at gunpoint on Sunday evening. The victim, Jarnail Singh of Utalan in Khanna district, said unidentified persons took away his car at gunpoint near Gurdwara Babe Shaheedan at Ajnaud village. The police have begun investigation into the case. OC

Dowry harassment

Ludhiana: The women cell of the police has registered two dowry harassment cases. On a complaint of Pinky of Islam Ganj, the police have booked her husband Rajesh Chauhan, father-in-law Gopi Ram, mother-in-law Ram Pyari, all residents of Ganganagar, Rajasthan. In another case, on a complaint of Rajwanti of Aman Nagar, the police booked her husband Vinod Kumar, of Nawi Bassi, Hoshiarpur. She said after her marriage in 2014, her husband started subjecting her to mental and physical torture for the want of dowry. A case was registered. TNS

Proclaimed offender held

Khanna: The Sadar police have arrested a proclaimed offender identified as Daljit Singh of Fatehulle Shah village in Moga district. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said Daljit had been absconding since 2005. Following a tip-off, the police raided his village and arrested him. He was wanted in FIR No. 32 registered under Section 399 and 402, IPC, on March 3, 2001. He did not appear before the court and absconded in 2005. OC 

Malwe Da Khed Mela kicks off

Samrala: Malwe Da Khed Mela got off to a colourful start at Malwa College Bondli, Samrala stadium.  BKU president Balvir Singh Rajewal unfurled the flag.  Later, DSP Samrala Harsimrat Singh Chhetra inaugurated the first kabaddi match. Jasdev Gola Jhar Sahib, Depu Kakrala, Sabi Kooner and Findi Jhar Saheb and other NRI organisers said about 20 kabaddi teams participated on the first day of the tournament being organised by Malwa Sports and Welfare Club, Samrala. Rinku Walia and Raj Gill, press secretaries, said a team of Dhanauri village reached finals after defeating Jargari village. In the second semi-final match, Banana village defeated Garhi Tarkhana. As per Gola, top-eight kabaddi academy teams of North India Kabaddi Federation will vie for top honors on the second day.
