Hyderabad: A Telugu television actress, Naga Jhansi (21), allegedly committed suicide at her Sri Nagar Colony residence here on Wednesday. Jhansi, reportedly under depression, was found hanging at her flat in an apartment building. The police said the actress was alone in the flat and her brother alerted neighbours when she did not respond to knock on the door. They broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. Jhansi acted in many serials, including ‘Pavitra Bandhan’ on MAA TV. TNS
20 judges per 10 lakh people in India: Govt in Lok Sabha
New Delhi: There are 20 judges per 10 lakh people in the country as compared to 17 in 2014, the Law Ministry said on Wednesday. In Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Law PP Chaudhary said based on the population as per Census 2011 and sanctioned strength of judges in SC, the 24 HCs, and lower judiciary in 2018, the judge-population ratio in the country works out to be 19.78 judges per million population. He said, the ratio was 17.48 judges per million population in 2014. PTI

Jodhpur: In fresh trouble for cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul and filmmaker Karan Johar over comments on women made on TV show ‘Koffee with Karan’, the police have registered a case on the directions of a magistrate’s court. Local resident DR Meghwal had sought registration of a case, terming the remarks indecent. He said these were made to increase the show’s popularity. PTI

Hardik Patel to contest Lok Sabha election
Ahmedabad: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti convener Hardik Patel, who was spearheading the agitation for reservation to Patels in Gujarat, on Wednesday announced his decision to jump into the 2019 Lok Sabha poll fray. He did not indicate whether he would contest as a candidate of a political party or as an Independent, nor did he disclose the constituency. OC
Virginity test of bride to be offence soon in M’rashtra
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government will soon make forcing a woman to undergo virginity test a punishable offence, it said on Wednesday. Certain communities in the state follow a custom whereby a newly-wed woman has to prove that she was virgin prior to the marriage. Ranjeet Patil, Minister of State for Home, said: “Virginity test will be considered a form of sexual assault...after consulting the Law and Judiciary department, a circular will be issued declaring it a punishable offence.” PTI
M’rashtra farmers to hold ‘Long March’ this month
Mumbai: Maharashtra’s farmers are all set to begin a ‘Long March’ to Mumbai later this month, nearly a year after several thousands of them walked to the country’s financial capital demanding better prices for their produce. The All India Kisan Sabha, which is organising the march, said farmers from 23 districts will begin marching from Nashik on February 20 and reach Mumbai on February 27. AIKS general secretary Ajit Navale said they would protest the non-fulfilment of the government assurances. TNS
