One arrested with 150-kg poppy husk

Moga: The Moga police have arrested a drug smuggler with 150 kg of poppy husk. The accused has been identified as Pal Singh of Badduwal village, which falls under the Dharamkot subdivision. A team of the anti-narcotics cell recovered five bags of poppy husk from Pal Singh, which weighed 150 kg. During interrogation, Pal Singh said his son Manjinder Singh, alias Mani, and truck driver Nikka Singh were involved in drug trafficking along with him. TNS

Diagnostic centre raided, five held

Sujanpur (Pathankot): A Health Department team from Chandigarh raided a Mallikpur-based diagnostic centre and arrested five persons under the PNDT Act. The team was called by Pathankot Civil Surgeon Dr Naina Salathia. Dr Salathia said she had been studying the sex ratio in the district for the past few months and found it to be “abnormally skewed” in areas in and around Sujanpur town. “The racket has been going on for quite some time now. I asked the Health Department and the police to raid the centre in Mallikpur. I had also been receiving complaints against the owners of the diagnostic centre,” she said. Dr Raju Dheer, Assistant Director, Punjab Health Services, said the arrests were made after laying a trap. TNS

BSP leader’s murder accused nabbed 

Phillaur: A Special Investigation Team has arrested notorious gangster Sarabjit Singh, alias Badunga, wanted in a murder case of BSP leader Ram Saroop on September 25 at Apra village here. SSP (Rural), Jalandhar, Navjot Singh Mahal said the police had already arrested seven other accomplices of Sarabjit Singh involved in the murder of Saroop. Badunga was arrested by the SIT at a bus stand in Lasarra village here on Monday. OC
