Chandigarh:  Harmukh XI defeated Canara Bank by 79 runs in the ongoing fifth Champions Corporate Cricket League here on Wednesday. Batting first, Harmukh XI scored 163/6 in 20 overs with Hitesh Dhar cracking a 47-ball 52 and Ravinder Sathu 44 off 36 balls. Charan Dass claimed two wickets, while Mukesh and Manoj took a wicket each. In reply, Canara Bank could only manage 84/9 in the allotted overs. Dhar was the pick of the bowlers for Harmukh XI, claiming 4/19. Sathu took 2/13. Rampal Raghav (25) was the top scorer for the bankers. TNS

Hockey trials today  

Chandigarh:  Hockey Chandigarh will organise trials to select the senior team for the upcoming 9th Hockey India National Championship at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here on January 18. The trials will begin at 2 pm, the sports body said here on Wednesday. Only those players who are affiliated with Hockey Chandigarh will be eligible to participate in the trials, the sports body added. TNS

Kayaking trials from tomorrow

Chandigarh:  Amateur Kayaking & Canoeing Association of Punjab will organise trials to select the sub-junior and junior teams for the forthcoming 29th National Canoe Sprint Championships at Sukhna Lake here on January 19 and 20 respectively. The trails will begin at 9 am, the sports body said here on Wednesday. The national championship is scheduled to be held in February. TNS

Animesh shines for NWCA

Panchkula:  Animesh Thakur smashed a 57-ball 89 to help Narinder Walia Cricket Academy (NWCA) beat Surajbhan Dreams Cricket Academy by 59 runs in the ongoing Sports World U-14 Tournament here on Wednesday. Batting first, NWCA rode on Thakur’s blitzkrieg to score 163/3 in 25 overs. Rudra Sethi made 31, while Kartik Jindal contributed 27 runs to the total. Mayank, Karan and Sahil claimed a wicket apiece. In reply, Surajbhan Academy were all out for 104 runs in 23 overs. Udhav Jindal was the most impressive bowler for NWCA, picking up 3/7. Tanmay Latka bagged 2/13. Jeevesh (35) did the bulk of scoring for Surajbhan Academy. TNS

Zoya clinches taekwondo gold 

Mohali: Athletes from Onyx Taekwondo Academy won nine medals, including three gold, in the recently-concluded Chandigarh Sub-Junior Taekwondo Championship. Naval Rawal (25kg), Vicky (44kg) and Zoya (47kg) won a gold medal each. The tournament was the held at Aanchal International School, Sector 41. A few of the players from the academy have been also selected for the national championships. TNS
