LUDHIANA: The police have booked six persons on the charge of attacking a father-son duo at Shahi Mohalla, Civil Lines. They have been identified as Rajinder Kumar, Kabir Nahar, Parshant Nahar, Hemant Nahar, Narinder Nahar and Tarun Nahar, all residents of the same area. The complainant, Chandar Shekhar said on January 13 when his son was standing outside his house, the suspects arrived there and started thrashing him due to old enmity. When he intervened, the assailants beat him up too. The police said raids were on to nab the suspects. TNS

Purse containing Rs 50k snatched 

Ludhiana: A man and his sister were robbed of Rs 50,000 by two bike-borne persons in an area that falls under the jurisdiction of the Division 8 police. Sonit Kumar of Ferozepur told the police that he, along with his sister, was outside the Gyan restaurant when two bike-borne persons blocked their way. The bikers snatched her sister’s purse that contained cash, a gold chain and other valuables. The police have registered a case. TNS

Peddler arrested with liquor

Ludhiana: The police have nabbed a peddler and recovered seven cases of illicit liquor from him. He has been identified as Mani Jassa, a resident of Dad village. The police said they got a tip-off that Mani was selling illicit liquor at a vacant plot at Dad village. They raided the place and nabbed the peddler red-handed. A case under the Excise Act has been registered. TNS

Illicit liquor recovered

Khanna: The Khanna police claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered a huge quantity of illicit liquor from them. The accused are Gurpinder Singh of Aloona Tola and Jaswant Singh of Daumajra, Payal Tehsil. SSP Khanna Dhruv Dahiya in a press note disclosed that a police party under SP-I Khanna Jasvir Singh led by SHO Sadar, Khanna, Baljinder Singh were on patrol at the Issru bus stand. They received a tip-off about the illicit liquor in a nearby village. They conducted a raid near the brick-kiln of Nasrali village and recovered 120 bottles of liquor from there. A case under Section 61, 1, 14 of the Excise Act was registered. The accused were presented in court, from where they were sent in 14-days’ judicial custody.

Two arrested with opium

Khamano: The Kheri Naudh Singh police claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered 900-gm of opium from them. The accused have been identified as Vivek and Rajinder, both residents of Gwalior. As per the information, the police recovered a plastic bag from the accused, who were sitting near a tube well near a naka near Kalewal village. During the search of the bag, the police recovered 900-gm opium from them. SHO Kheri Kulbhushan Singh said the accused were presented in court after registering a case under the NDPS Act, from where they were sent in 14-day judicial remand. As per the SHO, the accused brought the contraband from MP and were to deliver it in the area, but were arrested. OC
