Ludhiana: Five persons thrashed three friends and robbed them of Rs 42,000 on Hambran Road. The suspects have been identified as Happy of Ladhowal, Deepak of Phillaur and three unknown persons. The complainant, Shivam, a resident of Ajit Singh Nagar, told the police that on January 1, he, along with his friends Sudhir and Surinder, was heading towards home. When they reached Hambran Road, they were cornered by the suspects over an old enmity. They first thrashed Shivam and his friends and then snatched cash from them. TNS
Resident killed in hit-and-run mishap
Ludhiana: A man was killed in a hit-and-run mishap at Subash Nagar on Thursday night. He has been identified as Baldev Singh of New Subash Nagar. His wife, Rajni Bala, told the police that her husband had gone to his workplace but did not return home till late night. Next day, she came to know that her husband had met with an accident and he was found dead on the road. The investigation officer, ASI Kulwant Singh, said a case of negligent driving had been registered against unknown persons. TNS
Two held with narcotics
Ludhiana: The city police have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 150-gram ganja and 10-gram charas from them. The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar of Clock Tower and Kanshi of Balmik Nagar. Investigation Officer ASI Jaspal Singh of the Anti Narcotics Cell said acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted near PUDA ground, from where the accused were nabbed. He said they were waiting for their clients to deliver the consignment. Further probe to bust the supply line was on.
Two arrested with illicit liquor
The city police have nabbed two persons and recovered illicit liquor from them in separate cases. In the first case, the police arrested Uttam Yadav of Rajiv Gandhi Colony and recovered 11 bottles of liquor from him. In another case, the police have arrested Ram Kumar, a resident of Star City, Tibba Road, and recovered eight bottles of illicit liquor from him. He was arrested from Gopal Nagar during a routine checking. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the accused. TNS
