200 bottles of liquor seized

KAITHAL: Under a drive to check the sale of liquor from illegal sale points, the police seized 200 bottles from five spots. PRO Roshan Lal said that the Siwan police seized 20 bottles of country liquor and whisky from Rajinder Kumar at Kakheri village on Monday.

PRO Roshan Lal said that the Siwan police seized 20 bottles of country liquor and whisky from Rajinder Kumar at Kakheri village on Monday. The Pundri police seized 108 bottles of 'desi' liquor from Rohtash and Aman of Pai. In the third case, 24 bottles were seized from the illegal sale point of Kitab Singh at Pai village. As many as 24 bottles each were seized by the City police from Gopal and Ram Phal of the Railway gate. The police said investigation were on and they were taking action under the Excise Act. OC

Man booked for extortion bid

Yamunanagar: The police have booked an unknown person for allegedly demanding extortion money of Rs 5 lakh from a businessman. On the complaint of Suman Kumar of Model Town, Yamunanagar, a case was registered against an unknown person under Section 387 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at the Farakpur police station. The complainant said he owned a plyboard factory near Joriyon Naka of Yamunanagar. He said someone called on his mobile phone on Monday and demanded Rs 5 lakh from him. "The caller threatened me with dire consequences if I failed to give him the sum," the complainant said. Subhash Chand, SHO, Farakpur police station, said the matter was being investigated. TNS

2 boys slip into drain, one dies

Jhajjar: Two boys slipped into a drain passing through Dubaldhan village under Bahadurgarh sub-division here today. One of the boys drowned while the villagers managed to rescue the other boy. The deceased has been identified as Vikas (8) alias Chintu. The incident took place when a group of boys were playing near the drain. Suddenly, Vikas and Lakshya (7) slipped into the drain. The other boys raised an alarm. On hearing the cries, some villagers rushed to the spot and rescued Lakshya. Later, the police reached the spot and sent the body to the civil hospital in Jhajjar city for post-mortem examination. TNS

Two die in mishap 

Kurukshetra: Two persons died when they were run over by a truck in Jind on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Vipin (28) and his nephew Ankit (21) of Jind city. The scooter they were riding slipped. TNS

SBI branch manager ends life 

Panipat: The SBI branch manager reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented accommodation in Sector 11 here on Monday. The deceased was identified as Priya (28) of Ara district in Bihar. She was transferred from Rajasthan to Panipat as manager five months ago. Sub-inspector Kiran said Priya's body was handed over to the victim's family after the postmortem examination today. “The reason behind the suicide was not cleared yet,” she added. TNS

DHBVN extends bill settlement scheme 

Hisar: The DHBVN has extended the settlement scheme for power bill defaulters by a month after the recovery of about Rs 200 crore from defaulting consumers in the operations circles in Hisar, Sirsa, Bhiwani, Jind, Fatehabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, Narnaul, Rewari and Palwal districts. The DHBVN has a defaulting amount of Rs 4,000 crore on 8.85 lakh consumers in the state. The DHBVN has settled the defaulting amount of Rs 1,730 crore of 5.75 lakh consumers. TNS
