Kapur was eight behind leader Poom Saksansin, who had a three-shot cushion over Henrik Stenson. Seeking to end the year as the world No. 1, Justin Rose (71) was tied-4th. Rahil Gangjee was tied-20th, along with Viraj Madappa, while SSP Chawrasia was tied-30th.

Paceman Tim Southee ran through Sri Lanka's top order with a five-wicket haul to put New Zealand in a commanding position on the opening day of the first Test in Wellington on Saturday.
