Two onion-growers kill self in Nashik

Mumbai: Two onion farmers from Maharashtra’s Nashik district have allegedly committed suicide in the last two days, apparently due to indebtedness and low rates commanded by the bulb. Tatyabhau Khairnar (44) and Manoj Dhondage (33) hailed from Baglan taluka. Farmers in Nashik, which accounts for 50 per cent of onion production in India, have been unable to fetch good returns. PTI

4 more devices under drugs, cosmetics Act

New Delhi: Commonly used medical devices like nebulisers, blood pressure monitors, digital thermometers and glucometers have been notified as drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, a step which will enable the government to ensure their quality and performance. The Drug Controller General of India would regulate the import, manufacture and sale of these devices from January 1, 2020. These will have to be registered under quality parameters and BIS standards. PTI
