Kurukshetra: A local court has sentenced a youth to 10-year imprisonment for committing a theft and hurting a local resident. Additional District and Sessions Judge SC Saroai also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Amit alias Ganja. On March 15, 2018, Vikas Kumar, a salesman for a city-based trader, was in the market for domestic chores when Amit attacked him with a screwdriver. The latter took away Rs 5,000 cash and a silver chain worn by the victim at the time of the incident. The accused would have to undergo jail of another six months if he is unable to deposit the fine. Eight freed in Lok Adalat 

Ambala: A Lok Adalat was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at Central Jail, Ambala, in which eight accused serving imprisonment for committing petty crimes were released. Danish Gupta, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and Secretary, DLSA, said “As many as 10 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat, of which seven cases were disposed of and eight accused were released.” The Lok Adalat is being held on first Wednesday of every month at the Central Jail, Ambala.  TNS

3 snatch Rs 6 lakh from senior citizen 

Kurukshetra: A retired bank official was robbed of Rs 6 lakh by three youths in Jind on Wednesday. Police sources said the accused were zeroed in on with the help of CCTV footage. One of the youths was detained. A resident of Urban Estate in Jind, Rajinder Kumar, had withdrawn cash from a PNB branch. He put the cash in a bag that was tied on the rear side of his motorbike. While two accused waited at a short distance, one of them snatched the bag and fled. TNS
