The privilege of birth can ensure entry into the hallowed portals of entrepreneurship, but is by no means a tool to break the glass ceiling. Scaling business success while shouldering the weight of family legacy is no mean task and this is what authors Rinku Paul and Puja Singhal set out to explore with their new book Daughters of Legacy.

Sticking to the magic number of 12 like in their last book Millionaire Housewives’ that traced the success trail of 12  first-generation women entrepreneurs, in Daughters of Legacy the authors piece together interesting anecdotes from the lives of 12 women entrepreneurs who took charge of age-old legacies of family business  and carved a niche for themselves.

Chosen from a wide cross section in terms of scale of business, roles and hierarchy, the book gives a peep into the challenges they faced and the biases they fought. Manasi Kirloskar (heir to the Toyota Kirloskar empire), Bhairavi Jain (SCA Group of Companies),  Ashni Biyani, (chief ideator, Future Group), Meher Pudumjee (chairperson of Thermax Global), Lavanya Nalli   are some of the ‘heiresses’ who speak candidly about their journey in the world of business.

In tightly edited 12 chapters the writers methodically present a brief history of each business group and then go on to elaborate how each of these gritty women got a foothold in their companies and how they went on to add value to the existing businesses. Letters from the parents  at the end of each chapter serve as an icing on the cake.  An inspiring read for budding entrepreneurs. — TNS
