After appointing the chairpersons of four Improvement Trusts, the state government has begun the process to announce the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad chairpersons.

After sorting out the issue of reservation of wards, in consultation with the MLAs, the announcements of the chairpersons of the grass-root Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) would be made by the end of the month.

The elections to the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti were held on September 19, last year and the results were announced on September 22, but party leaders have been eagerly waiting for the announcement.

A senior leader of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) said the entire exercise had already been completed and the announcements would be made before August 15.

Not only the chairpersons of the Zila Parishads, announcements of chairpersons of boards and corporations would be made next week, as the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Congress Punjab Affairs incharge Asha Kumari and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunil Jakhar have already arrived at a consensus on the leaders to be adjusted.
