Ludhiana, October 18

The police claimed to have solved a blind murder case in which body of the migrant labourer was found in agricultural fields, near Gill bypass, at Dehlon, on October 1. The police probe found the deceased’s friend as the killer.

The suspect has been identified as Gain Mohammad, a native of Bihar, who is presently residing at Nirmal Nagar. The deceased was identified as Lakhinder Paswan, a resident of Janta Nagar.

The Additional DCP-2, Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, ACP Jashandeep Singh Gill and the Dehlon SHO, Manjit Kaur, addressed press conference regarding the arrest of the suspect in the case today.

ADCP Teja said on October 1, police got information that body of a migrant labourer was found in fields. The police immediately reached the spot and started probe, he added. As there were no visible injury marks on the body, initially inquest proceedings were initiated under Section 174, CrPc, he said. After keeping body at the Civil Hospital mortuary for 72 hours, it was cremated, he added.

Later, when postmortem report came, strangulation was cited as the cause of death, he said. Accordingly, a murder case was registered against an unknown person, he added.

Almost 10 days after the murder, the body was identified by deceased’s son Gautam Paswan, the ADCP said.

“When the police started technical probe, friend of the deceased turned out to be the key suspect. When he was rounded up and interrogated he confessed to having committed the crime. The suspect had strangulated his friend with handkerchief,” the ADCP added.

About the cause of murder, the ADCP said deceased had been blackmailing the suspect on some pretext and also threatened him to get an FIR registered against him due to which the suspect decided to eliminate him.

On October 29, both consumed liquor and when deceased was in an inebriated state, the suspect strangulated him and fled after dumping body in fields, the ADCP added.

Deceased, suspect were homosexuals: Police

As per police sources, deceased and suspect were homosexuals, which became the cause of former’s murder. Both were into same sex activity from the last one year. The suspect wanted to end the relationship, but the deceased was adamant on continuing it. “I was fed up with homosexual activity, but the deceased wasn’t. Recently, when I told him that we should end this relationship he threatened to get an FIR registered against me on the charge of sodomy. Fearing an FIR, I continued the relationship. Later, I murdered him,” the suspect told the police.
