Patiala, January 5

The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC after a 24-year-old youth was found dead near Sanjay Colony here.

According to the complainant, Neelam, a resident of Railway Colony, her son Karan had left home at 3.30 pm on Sunday. Later in the night, she was informed that he was found dead close to a nearby temple. She claimed that her son was murdered.

The police have arrested six youths, who allegedly confessed their involvement in the murder of 24-year-old Karan Babloo, whose body was recovered on December 31 from nearby Binny Gas Agency.

According to Patiala SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu, the victim’s body, which bore wounds, was recovered in the wee hours of December 31.

“Our teams started grilling all suspects in the case. Following specific leads, we arrested six youths, who were all known to the victim. An iron punch and three sharp-edged weapons have been recovered from the suspects,” said the SSP.

The police identified suspects as Shankar, Akhsay, Chanchal, Amit Kumar, Lakhan and Atul Kumar. The seventh suspect identified as Jabbar is yet to be arrested.

According to the police, Amit and Chanchal had a fight with Karan on December 25 during a party. “On December 30, the duo along with their accomplices attacked Karan. The suspects deliberately attacked Karan late in the night so that they could not be spotted while killing him,” the SSP added.
