The Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena have finalised the seat-sharing deal for the Maharashtra assembly elections 2019, senior state BJP minister Chandrakant Patil said here on Monday.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sena president Uddhav Thackeray will announce the quantum of seat sharing through a joint statement, Patil told reporters.

A statement issued Patil and senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai later said the Republican Party of India (A), Rashtriya Samaj Paksh, Shiv Sangram Sanghatna and Rayat Kranti Sena will be the other partners of the 'Mahayuti' (grand alliance).

The development comes a day after Thackeray handed out mandatory A-B forms —a form that mentions the official party candidate—to his party's candidates, including to son Aaditya Thackeray.

Aaditya Thackeray confirmed on Monday evening that he would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections.

Speaking to party workers in Worli from where he is due to fight the polls, Aaditya sought their blessings.

“I am here to seek the blessings of the party workers and the sitting MLA before filling my nomination," Thackeray told party workers.

Clad in saffron and welding a sword Aaditya invoked his grandfather BAL Thackeray and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

"We have been taught from a young age to serve the people," Thackeray said.

He refused to say whether the Shiv Sena is angling for the post of deputy chief after the election.
