Chandigarh, June 25

BJP MP from Karnal Ashwini Kumar Chopra today took a jibe at Haryanvi dancer Sapna Chaudhary who recently went to meet UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The MP said the Congress must decide what was more important to it, winning elections or ‘thumkas’ (dance moves).

The MP from Karnal said, “The Congress already has people who dance, and that’s enough. The party needs to prioritise what it wants to do - whether it wants to dance or win an election. (Congress mein thumke lagane wale jo hain woh hi thumke lagayenge, yeh unko dekhna hai ki thumke lagane hain ya chunaav jeetna hai).”

On June 22, Sapna Chaudhary was in Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, triggering speculation that she might campaign for the Congress in the 2019 General Elections.

However, the meeting did not materialise and was rescheduled.

Chaudhary had said that she liked the Congress and Sonia Gandhi and was willing to work for the party during the elections. On being asked if she would join politics, Chaudhary replied she that she had no plans of doing so.

Popular in the hinterland of Haryana for her dance on Haryanvi numbers, Sapna gained nationwide popularity after her participation in the Big Boss season 11.

She came into limelight in February 2016 by singing a controversial song with casteist remarks. She has a huge following in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Sapna has also made her Bollywood debut with the song “Hatt Ja Tau” in the movie “Veerey Ki Wedding”.

She was also seen shaking a leg in “Laado 2” and has shot for “Naanu Ki Jaanu” with actor Abhay Deol.
