Jammu, January 17

Coming down heavily on the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for its failure to handle the situation in the state, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief GA Mir said alienation among people had increased manifold during the three-and-a-half-year tenure of the PDP-BJP coalition.

Addressing a daylong convention of the party in the Marh Assembly segment on Wednesday, Mir said the BJP had virtually failed to handle the situation in J&K during its ‘unholy’ coalition. He said the worst-ever misgovernance and misrule of the PDP-BJP left the people of the state in the lurch and the overall situation deteriorated in the Kashmir valley.

The JKPCC chief said the BJP and PDP had entered into an ‘opportunist alliance’ for the sake of power and compromised with their core issues. “They remained engaged in a tug of war during their entire period in office, which caused great harm to the secular and social fabric of the state,” he said, adding that the BJP had mastery of falsehood and fake slogans and pursued destructive and divisive politics in the country.

Mir said the Congress always strengthened democracy and countered the anti-national and anti-democracy forces at the cost of sacrifices. — TNS
